The 16th International Solar Photovoltaic and Smart Energy (Shanghai) Conference and Exhibition, SNEC 2023, was held in Shanghai from May 23rd to 26th. After a two-year hiatus, SNEC returned with a record-breaking attendance of over 500,000 registrations, making it the most influential international, specialized, and large-scale event in the solar photovoltaic and energy storage industry. With an exhibition area of 270,000 square meters, the event attracted more than 3,100 companies from 95 countries and regions, further solidifying its position as a leading industry gathering. Here are some snapshots I captured at the event. SNEC has become the most influential international, specialized, and large-scale industry event in China, Asia, and the world for the solar photovoltaic and energy storage sectors. The exhibition covered various segments of the industry chain, including photovoltaic production equipment, materials, solar cells, photovoltaic application products and components, photovoltaic engineering and systems, energy storage, mobile energy, and more. According to reports, the rapid growth in the demand for solar photovoltaics has driven breakthroughs in new technologies for photovoltaic components, while the energy storage industry has experienced explosive growth. In recent years, the global solar photovoltaic industry has experienced rapid development, with an expanding market scale, continuous technological advancements, declining costs of solar power generation, and achieving the goal of grid parity. During the exhibition, industry leaders showcased new technologies and products for the application of solar photovoltaics and energy storage in the new energy industry.
Silicon Wafers/Modules - LONGi Green Energy
LONGi Green Energy unveiled its new product, Hi-MO 7, which is based on the HPDC technology. This product maintains the M10 standard module size, achieves a mass production power of up to 580 watts, and has a conversion efficiency of 22.5%. HPDC stands for Heterojunction Passivated Contacts, which features a high-low junction on the backside of the solar cell. This design optimizes the passivation effect across the entire cell surface, reduces light absorption, and introduces a low-resistance contact layer on the front side to further enhance cell efficiency, resulting in significant gains in power generation.
Inverter - TBEA Sunoasis
For large-scale power plants, TBEA Sunoasis introduced a new generation of modular 4.4M/8.8M photovoltaic inverter-boost integrated machine products. These products offer high conversion efficiency, strong adaptability, and high compatibility with grid connection, effectively improving the system's power generation capacity. The low coupling between multiple inverter units allows for independent maintenance and replacement of individual inverter modules, reducing operation and maintenance costs. The products also feature capabilities such as high/low voltage ride-through, weak grid adaptation, wide frequency adaptability, and SVG functionality to meet different grid connection requirements.
Photovoltaic + Storage + Hydrogen - Huawei
Huawei Intelligent Photovoltaic unveiled a new generation of comprehensive intelligent photovoltaic + storage solutions, providing cutting-edge solutions and globally successful application practices for three major application scenarios: clean energy bases, industrial and commercial usage, and residential use. Clean energy bases are diverse and complex, characterized by a high proportion of new energy, a high proportion of power electronic equipment, and gigawatt-level ultra-large-scale power plant installations. Huawei proposes the concept of "Three Convergences," which combines power electronics and digital technology, photovoltaics and energy storage, and the integration of energy and information flows. This creates a new type of clean energy base solution that is stable, safe, intelligently operated, and yields higher returns.
International Enterprise - Singapore Energy Group
Singapore Energy Group, a leading utility group and low-carbon new energy investment and service provider in the Asia-Pacific region, made its first appearance at SNEC, showcasing integrated low-carbon energy-saving solutions and achievements in renewable energy investment and development. In addition to investing in new energy assets, Singapore Energy Group actively promotes the concept of digital energy management and provides renewable energy certification services.
